One Lemon

Gold tones
in a song of bones
and I’m pining for a good strong
meal.

Some I crack, some I try
but they open up dry.
Scold my belly, but it just won’t
heel.

Slice of milk, glass of pie
shredded, breaded and fried
roar discordant, til they don’t seem
real.

Eggshell hands curl around
the unbearable sound
of one lemon that I can’t un-
peel.
