GoGuardian Damages Learning

by Jarod Harvell & Eli Sorvillo

Have you ever been looking at links a teacher gave you, and one or more of those links come up with that pesky GoGuardian blocked website. I need to say that GoGuardian is preventing learning. GoGuardian can prevent learning by blocking youtube videos such as crash course

videos. It also blocks many news and educational website. The only positive to go guardian that I can think of is the go guardian beacon. In other words, go gardens suicide prevention software. But who would you know that would actually look up how to tie a noose or how to commit suicide on a school or district-owned computer. It wouldn't make sense for anyone who knows how much the school monitors the computers. The only account of the GoGuardian actually flagging one of these searches was one bored person in LA lab to see what would happen if he looked that up. It has

been proven that music helps you study take tests and do overall school work; so why would you want to restrict access to the most used music streaming service out there, Spotify? It doesn't make any sense to do so yet it is blocked by default from GoGuardian. GoGuardian tracking software has to be on wifi to even function. If a student has lost their Chromebook it is likely to not be on wifi. It also has to be logged into the particulars students account when tracking is active. In shop when I am doing research goguardian will block essential resources such as coding example resources for multiple coding languages. you can't even access screenly (a digital signage operating system) for the tv That I helped set up in the cafeteria the Chromebook is completely useless In my selected Information Systems Technology field. All in all, GoGuardian damages learning by restricting usable sites for education.
