Our capstone project seeks to modernize strawberry farming by developing a technology that standardizes the assessment of strawberry ripeness. This innovation addresses the challenge of subjective ripeness judgments, which can vary significantly among individuals. By implementing a computerized system that defines a consistent standard for ripeness, we aim to streamline the training process for field workers, particularly in California, where approximately 88% of U.S.-grown strawberries are produced. Ultimately, our project strives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of strawberry harvesting operations. We hope to make the harvesting process more systematic and productive through the use of technology.
