Left to Right: Melanie Patranella, Amy Hartsell, Elizabeth Simpson, Gaby Moon
Grading: There are no numerical grades in kindergarten. Students will earn an I or M in each content area. M = Meets Expectations (70-100%), I = Improvement Needed (0-69%). ELA and Math inserts will be included in each report card with more detailed information on how your child is progressing.
Homework: Reading daily at home is essential to your child's reading success. We ask that you read with your child nightly. Rereading the same book several times is an excellent strategy for growth. Regular practice of sight words (identifying, reading in context and writing) will also help promote strong readers and writiers.
How can I help my child at home? We are fortunate to have several online resources to support learning at home. Many can be found on our Schoology Resources page.

Our school day is full of learning; therefore, your child will need a “working snack”. A "working snack" is any snack your child can eat while still completing work. Please send a healthy snack for your child to enjoy each day. We ask that your child's snack be easy to open and not require a utensil.
Teachers may also ask for donations of extra snack to keep in the classroom for days when a student does not have one.
We also ask that you send a sport top water bottle with your child each day.
We love to celebrate birthdays! We do not have class parties, but you are more than welcome to send a treat to share with your child’s class. Some suggestions of treats: cupcakes, cookies, cookie cake (pre-sliced), little Debbie snacks, etc.
Birthday snacks can be left in the office by noon.
**invitations for parties out of school must be sent for all students in the class**
Kindergarten typically goes on one big field trip a year. More information will come as we get closer to the field trip date. If you would like to join us on our trip, you MUST be approved through VIPS. Siblings are NOT permitted on our trips, per district policy.
Our daily conference time is 11:30-12:30. If you would like to meet with your child's teacher, please email them to set up a conference.
Shoes: Your child will need tennis shoes for P.E. and recess everyday.
Extra Clothes: We recommend that students keep a change of clothes, labeled with their name, in their backpack (socks and underwear included). Make sure the clothes are seasonally appropriate.
Weekly Folders: Your child will bring home a folder at the beginning of each week. Please check the folder each week for important grade level and school wide information. Any events happening for the month will also be included on the calendar located in the folder.
Transportation changes: If you need to change your child's transportation for the day, please call the office and let them know by 2:30. They will send the information to your child's teacher.
Library: Your child will visit the library each week. Please take note of your child's class library day and be sure to return the library book on that day.
