Left to Right: Jamee Brick, Amber Madden, Katelyn Steel, Alison Dippel
Grading: There are no numerical grades in 1st grade. Students will earn an I or M in each content area. M = Meets Expectations (70-100%), I = Improvement Needed (0-69%). An ELA insert will be included in each report card with more detailed information on how your child is progressing in their writing abilities.
Homework: Reading daily at home is essential to your child's reading success. Therefore, 1st graders are expected to read 20 minutes each night. Teachers will send home reading materials as skills are taught. Rereading the same book several times is an excellent strategy for growth. Regular practice of high frequency words will also help promote strong readers.
How can I help my child at home? We will be sending home materials for academic practice in both math and reading. We also have access to online resources such as Exact Path, ST Math and iRead, which your child can access both at school and home.

Snacks: Students can't learn if they are hungry, so they will have snack time each day. Please send an individual snack that is healthy and can be eaten in approximately 15 minutes. Please make sure they have what they need to eat their snack. Your child's teacher will let you know if there are food allergies to be aware of in the classroom.
Birthdays: We would love to celebrate your child's birthday! If you choose to send treats for the class to enjoy (completely optional), please send ready to serve items (cookies, cupcakes, etc). Please make sure to email your child's teacher before sending to verify any allergies in the classroom.
Shoes: Your child will need tennis shoes for P.E. and recess everyday.
Water Bottles: Send a water bottle every day and make sure it is clearly labeled with your child's name. It is H-O-T outside!
Monday Folders: On Mondays, your child will bring home their Mustang folder (will have a horse on the front). This folder will hold completed work and notes from the office or classroom. Please return it, empty, each Tuesday.
Medicine: All medicine must be administered by Nurse Eagle. Please contact her with any medical needs. Nurse Eagle will communicate with teachers.
Extra Clothes: We recommend that students keep a change of clothes in their backpack.
Labeling Items: Please make sure to label your child's items (jackets, lunch boxes, etc.) so that we can quickly return lost items found around the school!
