This page is where we will post your memories of your days in the U.S. Military.
Those days usually arrived early in our careers; with the Draft (“Universal Military Training”), or later, under The Berry Plan.
Our Class of 1961 had, at its launch, a close relationship with The Military. Our entering Class had two graduates of the Naval Academy, (Roger Edson and Rick Colvin), a veteran U.S. Navy Carrier Pilot, (John O’Hara), a former Navy Medic, (Frank Morlino,) and a U.S.Marine veteran of Korea, (Bob Peters) Gerry Linder, (a Navy Corpsman.) and Bill Bonney (with the U..S. Army).
And four of our 52 Graduates wound up with Careers in the Miltary; Grant McNaughton, Peter Putnam, Dick Slarve, and Dave Cryan.
During our years at Westwood, all of us were vulnerable to a Physician Draft. Most of us served our Country in one or another capacity. Many have shared a lot of great stories during our Zoom Meetings.
In general, all of us always provided our best efforts as Physicians, often in challenging settings providing care to our troops. But many were equally focused on letting all know that they were unwilling conscripts, proud civilians who had little respect for the costumes and customs of whatever branch they were bound to for two years (drafted), or three, (in The Berry Program).
Any who served are invited to recall your time in Service. As in our other pages, we hope to give an authentic glimpse of how it was, during days unknown to our younger fellow Alumni.
