A BRIEF HISTORY OF UCLAMED '61@60"
Norm Lewak first woke us up back in October of 2020 with his “message to all” about the proper use of masks during the Covid Pandemic. Someone noticed that we were technically in our 60th year out of Westwood, and a Zoom Meeting (that was a new phrase! ) might be even easier to stage than all of us trekking to Westwood for a dinner and a short visit.
Four of us: Art Ulene, Mort Levy,Norm Lewak, and Dave Cryan…decided that we could probably cobble a Virtual Reunion together , and decided to ask for input from all of you…your “short biographies”, any pictures from the past, or memories about Classmates, or art work or creative writings that you might want to share with others. It would have to be a Class effort, successful only if it was built from the ground up, and composed of your submissions. We originally assigned "Curators" for the various tasks and pages, but you can guess how that went.
We thought it would be nice to keep your submissions in some orderly fashion, where all could have access before our first “Session”; We went to work on a Google Drive "Folder"…Then, on the occasion of our first "All-In" Zoom Meeting, ..February 12, 2021...we also launched our fledgling web site, and called it
“UCLAMED ’61@60”…
Nothing is as easy as it looks. But some challenges are much more fun than others.
The past thirty-plus months have been, for us, a lot more engaging than any of us thought they would be. If Neil Simon was still writing plays, he might have called us “The Odd Quartet”. (Since Norm opted for Emeritus Status, we might need a new handle. ) We cannot invite you in to see the whole operation, but we can give you a glimpse. Finding who was out there, who was still up and about, and who had passed on, was serious business! But as Nora Ephron’s Mom said, consoling Nora on her second divorce…”Keep notes! It is all material!”
Amen to that!
