Ultimate Frisbee is a spirited, non-contact team game! Ultimate is usually played with 7 players on the field at a time. Ultimate is a self-refereed game, where players make the calls and value the spirit of the game to maintain fair play.
Ultimate was created in the 1960s as part of the counterculture movement and eventually became an official, nationally-played sport. Ultimate joined the CRLS athletics community in the spring of 2022 with a girls team and then added boys and mixed ultimate teams in 2024!
In 2022, our first season, the CRLS varsity girls formed with 15 student-athletes and went 6-5-1, placing 5th at the D2 State Championships. We won the state spirit award for outstanding sportsmanship.
In 2023, CRLS varsity girls went 20-0 in D2 and won the State Championship in an exciting final over Somerville. 28 student-athletes played ultimate.
In 2024, 50 student-athletes played ultimate across all teams! CRLS varsity girls moved to D1, went 15-6 and took 5th in the state, including a victory over the Prep School state champs Phillips Academy. We also won the state spirit award. We recruited a strong new D2 varsity girls team who went 8-3. Together, we competed in the Mixed State Tourney with our new boys team, winning the spirit award while finishing 5th.
In 2025, D1 was briefly ranked in the top 25 in the country, then finished 14-9 and 6th at the state tournament. D2, with a small, but determined roster, upset two teams and finished 2nd at their state tournament! They were 7-7 on the season. Our seniors were accepted into strong ultimate programs including Middlebury, MIT, Mt. Holyoke, Yale, Claremont / Scripps, UMass and NYU. Seven players made the state all-star game. We have 19 players returning for 2026.
Summary: 4 seasons, 3 state spirit awards, 1 D2 state championship, 1 D2 state runner-up, 17 state all-stars, infinite fun.
