World Languages

Requirements


Checkpoint A

New York State requires that students* earn 1 credit in the study of World Languages (Checkpoint A).

That credit can be earned in two ways:

  1. Successful completion of 1A and 1B World Language classes and passing grade on the FLACS A Exam.

  2. Successful completion of Spanish 1 in High School.

Checkpoint B

Students who continue study of a world language can satisfy one of the requirements for an Advanced Regents Diploma by passing level 2 and 3 World Language classes and the FLACS B Exam.

Checkpoint C

Those students who successfully continue language study at level 4 and/or AP level may be eligible to earn college credit and/or The New York State Seal of Biliteracy.

*Students with a disability may be excused from the requirement for 1 unit of credit in World Languages if so indicated on their IEP.
