The Fire Department had the pleasure of participating in this year's Job Shadowing Day.  The student intern rode with Master Deputy Fire Marshal Billy Brown, a 44 year veteran of our department.  They started off attending the Community Risk Reduction's Monthly Meeting, which happened to include breakfast.  The intern shared a few words with us during the meeting and we were very impressed with his public speaking skills.  He was very personable, articulate, and maintained a positive presence.   During the meeting he engaged with our staff and learned about many of the current issue facing our office and a recap of 2022's accomplishments.

MDFM Brown then took the intern to several of Chesapeake's fire stations where he met with firefighters to get a closer look at the day-to-day operations of CFD.  They also toured the Summit Point/Dollar Tree development where MDFM Brown works closely with contractors to approve fire protection features required by the building and fire codes. 

MDFM Brown said the intern was excited the whole day, communicated well with our staff, asked lots of questions, and even expressed an interest in a career with CFD.   It was pointed out by several of our members that the intern would make a great "ladder guy" because of his size.

To summarize, it was a great day for all.  Thanks for letting us show the intern around, he will be successful in whatever he decides to do.
