Dear Parents and Guardians:
¡Bienvenidos! My name is Dawn Vázquez and I will be your child’s Spanish teacher. We are beginning an exciting journey together as your child learns more about other languages and cultures around the world. The Spanish program for pre-K is centered around a communicative approach that incorporates Spanish stories, songs and cultures. Your child will receive Spanish instruction once a week for 30 minutes.
Topics that will be covered in this year’s curriculum include:
· Greetings and Salutations
· Introducing self and others
· Numbers 1-20
· School supplies, classroom objects and people at school
· Colors
· Shapes
· Animals
· The calendar and expressing dates
· Basic math in Spanish
· Seasons and weather expressions
· Cultural practices, traditions, and holidays in Spanish-speaking countries
Learning a second language is an exciting opportunity that is very useful in today’s diverse world. My goals this year for your child include helping him or her to develop vocabulary and knowledge of key phrases in the Spanish language and to help him or her to appreciate cultural differences between our culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. We will be learning in many different ways including singing, dancing, role-playing, and crafts.
In our Spanish class, we will follow the below four rules to ensure that we have a fun and productive class:
1. Be positive, respectful, and supportive.
2. Ask questions by raising your hand.
3. Face Sra. Vázquez and be silent when she counts down 3 – 2 – 1.
4. Leave our classroom clean and orderly.
If you need to contact me for any reason, please do not hesitate to do so. You can email me at dmvazquez6@cps.edu and I will respond as quickly as possible. Thank you very much and I look forward to working with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Señora Dawn Vázquez
