September & October 2018
¡Bienvenidos! During Hispanic Heritage Month, our 4th - 8th grade Spanish scholars will investigate one Spanish speaking country’s independence day history and cultural celebrations. Students will share their findings with their class and visually depict it on a self-made piñata! We will culminate our investigations with a Hispanic Heritage Assembly on October 18th/25th! Following, our students will review what they learned last year through interactive station games, which will culminate in a review assessment.
Our 3rd grade Spanish students will discover where Spanish is spoken in our global community and where each country is located on a map. They will also explore how Spanish spread from Spain to the 21 other Spanish speaking countries. Lastly, our scholars are also exploring various Hispanic heroes, their impact on our community, and their country of origin.
Our primary Spanish students will learn how to greet people, say their name, and express their emotions in Spanish. Our students will continue their interactive notebook and learn how to make papel picado to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month!

Grades 4-8
Our 4th - 8th grade Spanish students are learning to describe their likes and dislikes about fashion and clothing. After learning 20-35 Spanish clothing words, our students discovered that descriptive color adjectives must agree in number and gender with the clothing item! Our scholars are beginning to describe their likes and dislikes and will be explaining which items of our school uniform they love, like, and dislike while also explaining why using descriptive adjectives! Then, for their second Spanish virtual voyage abroad they will encounter a common traveling problem when the airline loses their luggage! In Spanish, they will practice answering personal information questions when they approach our "airline agent" and describe their suitcase and its contents so that the agent hopefully finds the correct suitcase! Their classmates will have the drawings of each student's suitcase and will work collaboratively to determine each classmate's "lost suitcase!" If any Spanish speaking parents would like to be our "airline agent" please reach out to Sra. Vázquez at dmvazquez6@cps.edu!
On April 10th our 7th and 8th grade students attended the Latino Film Festival and viewed the Uruguay movie titled "Mi Mundial"! The movie (translated as "Home Team") tells the story of Tito, a wonderful 6th grade soccer player, who comes from a little village and is traded to a big team in the city.
Grade 3
Our 3rd graders are currently learning the Spanish alphabet so that they can spell their name and give their email in Spanish and will eventually be learning about the Spanish calendar, holidays, and weather around the world!
Pre-K - Grade 2
Our primary Spanish students are mastering telling time in Spanish with hours and minutes. Following, they will learn the Spanish colors as we study Latin American and Spanish art!
On April 28th, our families are invited to attend "Día de los niños" (Day of the Children) in Pilsen. The parade will start at Plaza Tenochtitlan, 18th Street and Blue Island Avenue, and end at Harrison Park, 1824 S. Wood St with activities for children!
