Qualifications

The qualifications for getting into the Early College Program at Goode are as follows:

  • 2.5 GPA

  • 90% Attendance Rate

  • Take & pass one or both of the Entrance Exams. There are two separate Early College entrance exams; ALEKS (Math), and RTW (English). Students can also become eligible during Junior year based on SAT scores.

Testing for the Early College Program typically takes place at Goode two times per semester:

  • Fall testing takes place in October

  • Spring testing takes place in April/May

  • Summer testing takes place in early July.

In order to test:

  • Students must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA, and a 90% attendance rate.

  • Freshman can only test in the Spring or Summer semester of Freshman year.

  • Seniors can only test in the Summer or Fall semester of Senior year.

Passing:

  • Passing just 1 of the exams will gain entrance into the early college program, however, in order to be able to take all classes and complete an Associate's degree, students must eventually take and pass both tests. Passing score for ALEKS Math is a 46, and a score of a 6 is required for RTW English.

ALEKS Math

The ALEKS Math test is 1 of 2 early college entrance exams. It has content from Algebra, Geometry, and more.

Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces is a Web-based, artificially intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know. As a student works through a course, ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to ensure that topics learned are also retained. ALEKS courses are very complete in their topic coverage and ALEKS avoids multiple-choice questions.

Students can also become Math eligible with an SAT score of 530 .

Studying & preparing for the test:

A great way to study for ALEKS is to get math tutoring, practice lessons on KHAN Academy, and do the actual ALEKS practice tests on the ALEKS website.

Passing:

In order to become college eligible, students must receive a score of a 46 on this test.

RTW English

The RTW exam is 1 of 2 early college entrance exams. It tests the students on their knowledge of reading, comprehension, and writing.

The Reading To Write Placement Test to place students into the appropriate English courses that will best promote academic success, and to determine eligibility for other courses new students can take in their first semester at college. Students will need to read passages, answer questions, and write 2-3 complete essays throughout the test.

Passing:

In order to become college eligible, students must receive a score of a 6 on this test.

On testing day...

You need to arrive immediately after school to check in.

If you're testing for Math to bring scrap paper and pencils.

Bring a snack because you may be testing for more than an hour.

Be prepared to test for about 1-3 hours!

Make sure your phone is on silent. You may not make or take any phone calls in the testing environment!
