Everything comes to an end, and with the tournament and the school year coming to a close, sometimes it’s always good to look back at where it all started. With your team, recreate the classroom that you and your classmates met throughout the season. Don’t have a physical classroom? Then make one! Make sure that it is filled with everything that you might see in a regular classroom but don’t hesitate to let your imagination go wild!
Let’s kick your minds into gear with this: your team has to include a “statue” of your favorite mob from Minecraft!
Will your favorite mob change the way the classroom looks? How about the theme of the classroom? It’s up to you and your team to decide!
Time Limit - 15 minutes
Whether on a movie set or everyday life, a spark of action can happen at any moment. Capture a picture of this action using Minecraft! Be it riding a bike to the park, or walking away from an explosion, create a still life image of an action scene. But do not use TNT! We want an action pose, not a hole in the ground!
Is your action scene going to be cinematic? You might not be able to use TNT, but how can you convey an explosion? Is your action scene something that can happen in real life, or a movie, or maybe both?
Time Limit - 25 minutes
The Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu and the Roman Colosseum. These three structures are a part of the list of seven of humankind's greatest engineering marvels, called “World Wonders”. Put your engineering hats on and come together with your team to create something that can be considered the 8th Wonder of the modern world. Then, once you make it, using a Book & Quill, write a story about your build.
What makes the 7 World Wonders so special? What did they mean to the people who made them? Is a Wonder special because of how big it is, or because of how impressive it is? What does the Wonder mean to you and your team?
Time Limit - 30 minutes
Your final challenge… all your building techniques have paved the way for this one last prompt. In front of you stands the biggest obstacle yet; Mobzilla! Your mission is to design and build a battle robot that can take on this monster head on! Apply all your skills you’ve crafted up to this point to vanquish this foul beast, and once your mech is ready to fight, use a Book & Quill to write a story about the event!
What kind of weapons will your mech have? Who’s piloting it? What’s in the background of the fight? A city, maybe? Are mechs always made out of steel? How about wood, or maybe wool?
DO NOT ACTIVATE ANY TNT/EXPLOSIVES (IF USED) UNTIL THE JUDGES FINISH GRADING YOUR BUILD!
Whether you want to create a scene from your favorite old school video game, make a low-res version of a renowned portrait, or just about anything else, you are challenged to make a pixel art masterpiece. Pixel art focuses on making images with the least amount of blocks possible so remember, less is more. We advise you to be as creative as possible with the use of your blocks, using dyed wool and diamond blocks alone won’t cut it.
Timeline: 2 Weeks
Overall Requirements:
Each build must be only 1 block in thickness
However you can have multiple builds on different axes
Builds can be made vertically (standing up) or horizontally (laying on the ground).
Builds should not be too large.
Make sure that the subject of the art is approved by your coach.
Teams must use a “Flat Grass Block” world as a base.
Submissions will consist of at least a 2 minute video of the team describing their build and the .mcworld file.
Those pesky villagers ruined our perfect Flat Grass Block world by building ugly tiny homes all over it! Your challenge, as the alien overlords, is to use your superior tech to get rid of the village (from the last prompt). Depict an alien invasion and use any advanced technology like redstone, element blocks, or coding to destroy them all! We encourage you to show the buildings as the invasion is happening rather than a crater where buildings once were.
Timeline: March 3rd at 11:59pm
Overall Requirements:
The build must use the same .mcworld file as Prompt 2 (Compact Homes) as a base.
Builds must have some advanced technology such as redstone, element blocks, or coding.
Make sure your scene is approved by your coach.
Submissions will consist of a video that is between a minimum of 3 minutes to a maximum of 5 minutes in length.
You should have the team describing their build and all the details around it with multiple people speaking as well as the .mcworld file.
(Again) Be advised, you will have to use this world for future prompts, make sure you can add onto this build.
The need for housing continues to go up, while the amount of resources goes down. But not all hope is lost, brilliant designers, like you, have been making compact homes. A compact home tries to take as little space as possible while still being functional! You are challenged to make a neighborhood/village with compact homes. Make sure to include all the necessities a villager would need!
Timeline: 2 Weeks (Video is due Feb 17th at 11:59pm)
Overall Requirements:
The build must have multiple homes.
Homes should be as compact as possible.
Homes must be accessible.
Make sure to make a neighborhood and not a whole city
Teams must use a “Flat Grass Block” world as a base.
Submissions will consist of at least a 3 minute video of the team describing their build and the .mcworld file.
Be advised, you will have to use this world for future prompts, make sure you can add onto this build.
Pick one of the following prompts:
Your village has been destroyed by alien invaders. They are abducting villagers and you are on the run but the escape route is dangerous! Create a dangerous obstacle course for you (and the judges) to navigate through to escape the alien invasion. Be sure to include all sorts of dangers and make running and jumping an important part of the course. Your course should have a clear starting line and finish line and not require any tools, potions, or flying abilities to complete. We suggest making the path that is expected to be taken easy to identify (i.e. torches, or a colored pathway).
OR
Your village has been destroyed by alien invaders. They abducted you and have locked you in a room. Luckily clues, tools, and materials to escape the room have been left for you to figure out a way out. Create an escape room for you (and the judges) to escape from the alien abduction. Be sure to include all sorts of hidden clues and make critical thinking an important part of the challenge. Your room should have a clear starting area, goal area, and not require any flying abilities or glitches to complete. We suggest making the room out of a consistent block that you do not expect judges to break (i.e. bedrock, obsidian, or other hard to break blocks).
Timeline: Due Thursday March 16th at 11:59pm
Overall Requirements:
The build must use the same .mcworld file as Prompt 3 (Alien Invasion)
Obstacle courses and Escape rooms must be able to be completed.
Obstacle courses must be leading in a direction away from the Prompt 3 (Alien Invasion) build.
Escape rooms can be made of multiple rooms all connected to each other.
Submissions will consist of a walkthrough video of the team describing how to complete the obstacle course or escape the room and the .mcworld file.
(Again) Be advised, you will have to use this world for future prompts, make sure you can add onto this build.
Included below are two example videos of an obstacle course and an escape room. We encourage you to pull inspiration from these videos but do not directly copy them!
Obstacle course:

Escape room:
You managed to escape the alien invaders. Time for you to do what you do best, and that is build! But don’t build on the surface, unless you want another invasion. This time civilization will need to be built elsewhere, out of sight, and in a new place to call home! Underground? Underwater? Or somewhere else completely? Try to incorporate some of your building techniques from Prompt 2 (Compact Homes) as well as introducing some more to fit your new home! Make sure that your new village compliments the surrounding environment and that your village has some sustainability, like food and water sources.
Timeline: Due April 2, at 11:59pm
Overall Requirements:
The build must use the same .mcworld file as Prompt 4 (Escape) (but obviously a far enough distance away)
Builds should have some similar building designs from Prompt 2 (Compact Homes).
Builds underground homes should be appropriately well lit, and underwater homes should be inhabitable without potions of water breathing.
Submissions will consist of at least a 3 minute video of the team describing their build and the .mcworld file.
It’s been a while since the last alien invasion. They left your world behind after destroying your village, but they also left behind some of their technology! Using their technology you can explore the farthest reaches of space. Will you use this new power to be the arbiters of peace across the stars, or take revenge on the aliens that devastated you so many prompts ago? You have as much creative freedom as you like and you can depict any part of your interstellar adventure you want, create a space station about to launch an alien/villager hybrid ship or a whole other alien world (friendly or enemy).
Timeline:
Overall Requirements:
The build does not have to use the same .mcworld file as Prompt 5 (Bunker)
If the build does not use the same .mcworld file as before, it must be on a new “Flat Grass Block” world
Builds should have some similar technology from Prompt 3 (Alien Invasion).
Submissions will consist of at least a 3 minute video of the team describing their build and the .mcworld file.
Need to some Inspiration? Or some practice? Here are the prompts that were given out to schools during the Fall 2022 Pre-Season!
Overall Requirements:
Teams must use a "Flat Grass Block" world.
All prompts must be build within a 30x30 block area.
All builds must be accompanied with a Book & Quill with a story created by the students. This can either be a fully original fictional story, or a modified story from the team's favorite book/movie/show.
Each week we will give you a chapter to add to your book and you will have a specified time to build that chapter per week.
If you're using this to practice, you can use these prompts to also practice how to record, edit and produce your 4-minute explanation video!
“A picture is worth a thousand words” - however, a picture and a thousand words is worth a lot more! Using a Book and Quill, either write an original short story or write down a passage from your favorite book (make sure to cite the book if you do!) inspired by the topics listed below. Each phase will be a different “chapter” where your team will receive feedback on the work they’ve done for each chapter. Using a 30x30 block area, you will be creating scenes per each “chapter” based on the short story or passages that are written within the Book and Quill. You can choose to build upon the previous chapters or you can choose to do separate stories entirely.
Timeline: 1 week
Specific Requirements:
Create a book cover using an assortment of blocks - use 8 X 11 as reference
Will be viewed from above
Overall Requirements:

Timeline: 2 weeks
Specific Requirements:
Minimum 3 municipal buildings (e.g. post office, library, police station)
A form of transportation to get between each place (e.g. horses, boats, pigs)
Timeline: 2 weeks
Specific requirements:
If your story is building upon each other, conclude it anyway you want! Be creative and interesting… or don’t, you decide the outcome!
If you’re making a separate story:
Choose your favorite book ending and create an “alternate ending”. Make sure to include the original ending in the Book and Quill on the lectern.
Your prompt 2 build must be in the same world as Prompt 1.
