The Equity Centered Research Approach (EqRA) exists within the context of CPS, and so builds upon a strong foundation of work that precedes us.
The CPS Equity Framework: Our North Star
CPS launched the Office of Equity to work hand-in-hand with every district office to ensure each undertaking is pursued with equity as a goal. The Equity Framework is a resource that helps our district adopt a new way of understanding through four Equity Lenses - Liberatory Thinking, Inclusive Partnerships, Fair Policies & Systems, and Resource Equity.
In creating the Equity Framework, the Office of Equity heard from over 3,000 voices across the city. EqRA relies on the CPS Equity Framework to shape our understanding and articulation of how everyone involved in research should approach the research lifecycle.
CPS defines equity as championing the individual cultures, identities, talents, abilities, languages, and interests of each student by ensuring they receive the opportunities and resources that meet their unique needs and aspirations.

CIDT: A Community-driven Definition of School.
The Continuous Improvement and Data Transparency Policy is a transformative and holistic approach to school accountability, and instead of focusing solely on student outcome measures like grades and test scores, it also clearly articulates what conditions, supports, and resources are needed to create a successful school environment for all students.
In developing CIDT, the district heard from over 20,000 stakeholders on what they felt was essential to a quality learning experience for students. EqRA builds on what was learned during this process and translates CIDT’s articulation of community-driven priority areas to a clear articulation of district research needs.
