Medicaid Data

As shown, there is a correlation present between the percentage of individuals covered by Medicaid and the percentage of those who are unemployed across Chicago’s ZIP codes. This brief examination was part of the very preliminary work into this subject; These results were not the main target of this analysis, but were rather a part of establishing a basis from which to proceed from.

For this graph, we were trying to find if the percentage of a population covered by medicaid connects to the unemployment rate for that population. The correlation between the two is strong. When using the correlation method in java, the result is 0.888. This can possibly be attributed to qualification of medicaid. If you are eligible for medicaid, you may also be unable to work. To be qualified, you have to be either blind, pregnant, older than 65, living with someone who is disabled, or the caretaker of a child. All are possible reasons that someone would not be able to work. This does not mean that medicaid is responsible for unemployment, simply that they are connected. The insurance has a positive impact, as it shows that even the unemployed can receive some sort of health care.
