The SHS Exec Board and Committee Leaders had their summer retreat on July 9th.
Our leaders had a leadership workshop where they learn about leadership styles and their personalities. We had some team-building activities, and communication-building activities.
All the leaders were able to learn about each role. The leaders also discussed communication methods, analyzed data from surveys, made adjustments to our chapter, planned for the new school year activities and service, and begin planning for induction. Our leaders were busy!
We went to El Abuelo for lunch. And, we had our first official leadership meeting.
Our first Hispanic Food Trip of the school year was a success! This was the fourth time SHS has visited Che Chori.

The Spanish Honor Society started the celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month (HHM).
The SHS Chapter met on Wednesday, September 4th and Thursday, September 4th to organize HHM Display Cases to show the CPCSC community a little about the Hispanic culture. There are displays by the cafeteria of WCHS, and CPCSC Central Office (Admin Building).
We had our September General Body Meeting on September 10th.
Our meetings are the second Tuesdays of every month (with adjustments when we are on breaks). We had a successful general body meeting: we shared updates, announcements, events, and volunteering opportunities.
Some of the SHS members stayed after school to help decorate Mrs. Gonzalez's classroom in honor of her birthday! Our members will be doing this all year for all of our World Language teachers.

On Friday, September 13th, some of our SHS members helped tape the tennis courts at the high school to make pickle ball courts for the Clark-Pleasant Pickleball Challenge.
On Saturday, September 14th, SHS members volunteered to help set up, they ran registration, they ran concessions, they acted as ball retrievers during the games, they cheered on the players, and they cleaned up.
10 SHS members volunteered with La Plaza on Friday, September, 20th to help set up for FIESTA Indianapolis.
Students helped by setting up tables, chairs, and other tasks.
Some of our members presented on Central American Culture and traditions to the residents at the Greenwood Village South on September 25th. They join them on their Quesadilla Making Day.
Some of our members volunteered at WES PTO's annual Chili Cook-off on September 26th.
Our SHS members spent 2 weeks trying to sell as many pulseras as possible for the Pulsera Project. They sold at football games, Java Jazz, and during the various lunch periods.

This month, our meeting was on a Thursday due to Fall Break. We had a successful general body meeting: we shared updates, announcements, events, field trips, and volunteering opportunities.
On Saturday, October 5th, some of our SHS members woke up bright and early to volunteer and help the CPEF on their annual Fit at the Farm. It was a beautiful morning for a 5K and mile races. Our members had a great time!
Our second Hispanic Food Trip of the school year was a success! This was the second time SHS has visited Havana Cafe.
The food was amazing! And, we look forward to returning in the future!
Some of our SHS members volunteered with the JCPL to help with their Trick-or-Treat event on Wednesday, October 30th.

Some of our SHS members volunteered with the JCPL to help them with their STEAM Day. Our members have been enjoying volunteering with the JCPL, and we look forward to more collaborations.
The Spanish Honor Society volunteered with the Clark Elementary's annual Fall Festival which was on Friday, November 8th. Our members helped run games, served as runners, etc.
Many of our SHS members helped with the Wizards Basketball Game on November 9th. Our members helped with check in, set-up, running concessions, and clean-up.

Our Spanish Honor Society Members attended the 2024 Indy International Festival on Friday, November 15th which was hosted at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Our members had the opportunity to visit the various countries represented where they were able to learn about those countries and fill out their passports with information they learned. Afterwards, they were able to watch and enjoy some performances. Some of our members also had the opportunity to participate in one of the performance. The festival had many different options for food, and our members made sure to try them out.
Our Display Case Committee updated the display cases by the cafeteria to display some holiday spirit. A big thank you to this team for putting together some amazing display cases.
The Engagement Committee planned a Día de Acción de Gracias event to celebrate Thanksgiving. Our members were asked to bring a dish from their culture/tradition or a dish they love to eat in their family. We had some amazing dishes! Our members enjoyed a great evening of food, friendship, and fun! Our members were also encouraged to write a thank-you note to a faculty/staff member who they are thankful for.
A couple of our members and Mr. Aguilar ran a table at New Hope Church for their Resources of Hope event. They had the opportunity to interact with families and share with them about the Hispanic culture. They had some holiday coloring sheets for children, a flower-making craft, and Hispanic sweets/treats for families to try.

We had a successful last general body meeting of the semester: we shared updates, announcements, events, and other opportunities we hope to have next semester. We also awarded our Member of the Semester to Grady Rouse for showing commitment, dedication, and involvement within el Guaraní Chapter during the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year.
The SHS Engagement Committee planned and experience a very colorful and fun celebration in Hispanic culture called "Las Posadas." This year SHS decided to show its members what a posada is. We learned about the history and meaning of the tradition, we practiced the posada tradition, and we celebrated!
The SHS chapter enjoyed some chocolate caliente, pan dulce, arroz con leche, and they also broke piñatas.
The SHH Chapter volunteered on Saturday, December 21st from 12-5pm @ Interchurch Food Pantry in Franklin. Our members helped out with sorting out food from donations for the food pantry. Thank you to all of our members who helped out!

We had various icebreakers and fun ways to learn more about each other. The leaders also had a scavenger hunt where they had to work in small groups to put into practice their Spanish language and culture knowledge.
All the leaders reflected on how the first semester went: what things went well, what things can improve, and what goals they have. The leaders also planned for the new semester activities and service, and what initiatives they want to work on. A busy day for our leaders!

We have many exciting things this semester including: Concurso Académico, National Spanish Exam, and Graduation activities to honor and celebrate our seniors!
We had our February General Body Meeting on January 11th.
The meeting highlighted service and attendance updates, with 455.5 service points and 12 members below 70% attendance. Dues are mostly paid, with a 20% increase among returning members. Volunteer opportunities include Book Buddies, Project Prom, and several community events. The Concurso Académico was canceled, but posters can still be submitted. The National Spanish Exam FIT is set for April 9–10. Upcoming events include a Valentine’s Day party, Carnaval in March, and a fundraiser at El Abuelo on Feb. 12. Leadership applications opened, and January Members of the Month were announced.
On July 12th & 13th, our leaders promoted our SHS Chapter during the Showcase Nights for Parent Teacher Conferences.
On Friday, February 14th, our SHS Chapter celebrated el Día de San Valentín by learning about how this holiday is celebrated in various Spanish-speaking countries. Our members enjoyed some food, treats, and they wrote friendship notes to members of our chapter.
Two of our members took time on February 15th to help the JCPL with cleaning of toys. Our members also helped with some additional tasks. A big thank-you to these members for their time and flexibility.
Our SHH members volunteered this Saturday, February 22nd with the Center Grove Christian Reformed Church for The Refuge Coldest Night of the Year Walk. Thank you for our volunteers for their time!
We had our March General Body Meeting on March 11th.
The meeting included updates on service points (nearly 86 this month), dues (88% paid), and attendance (7 members below 70%). Upcoming events include Book Buddies, Project Prom, school carnival, and a joint Carnaval event with FHS on March 14. Leadership applications are due March 13, with interviews in April. Members were reminded about the National Spanish Exam (April 9–10) and to vote on the date for Senior Awards Night. February’s Members of the Month were also announced.
Our SHS Chapter partnered up with the starting FHS Chapter on a Carnaval/Mardi Gras event!
We learned about the event in both Hispanic culture and Francophone culture. We cut a king's cake, crowned the Queen of the Party, and played many fun "minute-to-win-it" games with prizes.

Our Display Case Committee put together some display cases in order to share some information on Semana Santa & Pascua. The displays share how these are celebrated in Hispanic countries and the importance of it.
We had our April General Body Meeting on April 15th.
The meeting covered service and attendance updates, with 641 service points earned and a few members below 70%. Dues are nearly complete with only two unpaid. Upcoming and final volunteer events include book fairs, Celebrate Día, and school carnivals. Academic and engagement committees are organizing a Jeopardy Game Night on April 26. Members were reminded to complete the returning membership form and to save the date for the Senior Awards Night on May 22. March Members of the Month were announced, and thank-yous were given for recent events and leadership participation.
Our Academic Committee and Engagement Committee organized a Jeopardy game day as one of our last events of the school year. We had a morning and afternoon game, and we enjoyed some pizzas and snacks!
Some of our SHS Members helped with the "Celebrate Día" (farm animal theme) at the JCPL Clark Pleasant Branch. We had a table to share some Hispanic goodies, and broke 2 piñatas (a cow and a chicken) with the children who attended the event. Our members also participated in a sing along of "old MacDonald had a farm" with animal sounds in various languages. Our members also taught the children and families how to sing the piñata song!
Our Display Case team met to put together an educational display case about 5 de mayo. Most people don't know the significance of this holiday and what it celebrates.

We had our May General Body Meeting on May 13th.
The chapter has reached 739 service points and 1,095.5 total points, with a reminder that attendance needs improvement for some members. All dues have been paid. Final volunteer events are wrapping up, including Book Buddies on May 14. Updates included upcoming slides on college language requirements and a completed Cinco de Mayo display. Members were reminded to submit their returning membership forms. April Members of the Month were recognized, and several thank-yous were shared for recent events and committee efforts. SHS Awards Night is May 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

This year, we had 73 students participate in the NSE 2025. We are thrilled to congratulate our outstanding Spanish students from Whiteland Community High School who have demonstrated excellence on the 2025 National Spanish Exam (NSE), earning well-deserved national recognition. In this year's competition, our students secured a remarkable 2 gold, 6 silver, 9 bronze, and 15 honorable status. The achievement of earning a national ranking on the National Spanish Exam (NSE) is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students!
The AATSP Exams is a program of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). With a rich history dating back to 1957, the National Spanish Exam (NSE) is administered annually from grades 6 through 12 and serves as a cornerstone of academic achievement in Spanish language education. As the largest of their kind in the United States, the NSE attracted over 80,000 student participants in 2025. Achieving gold, silver, or bronze status in the NSE opens doors for students to explore a variety of opportunities provided through the AATSP Exams program. To conclude our 2024-2025 school year, our SHH Chapter had a "Recognition Night" to conclude the year and honor our members who have worked tirelessly to make this school year a successful year. On this night, we honored our 23 graduating seniors, our 6 graduating seniors who were part of the leadership team, our NSE national placement recipients, our premios por excelencias, our premios por servicios, our outstanding tutors, and our member of the semester. We had a great evening of celebration for our members.
