How We Serve Your Student
Parent Center
Parent Center
Our Tier 1 services represent a universal level of support that targets all students and is the foundation for student learning. It focuses on academic and behavioral success for all students. We continuously assess and adjust our services, administration, and instruction based on the evolving needs of our student population.
Here are some key components and services of our Tier 1 MTSS program:
High-Quality Classroom Instruction:
Tier 1 instruction that utilizes research-based, effective teaching strategies that cater to diverse learning needs. We ensure that our teachers have access to evidence-based instructional practices, resources, and trainings.
Differentiated Instruction:
Our teachers are equipped to differentiate their instruction to meet the varying needs of their students. This involves adapting content, processes, or products to accommodate different learning styles.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS):
Implement a school-wide system for positive behavior management and reinforcement. We are proactive & intentional about promoting & rewarding positive behaviors to encourage students to repeat them. Positive environments that are socially and intellectually safe are a priority.
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs:
We address our student's social-emotional needs by utilizing the Second Steps curriculum every Thursday during our Extended Learning Time (ELT). This helps our students develop emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills in hopes that we can improve behavior and reduce disciplinary issues.
Extended Learning Time (ELT)
Students are provided an extra 30 minutes a day to complete independent practice assignments to strengthen their understanding of concepts they have learned in class. They are given additional time to complete classwork/homework and obtain help from their ELT teacher. Students are required to review their grades, ensure they don't have missing work, and set academic & behavioral goals every Monday and Friday.
Collaborative Problem Solving:
Our teachers, administrators, and support staff collaborate to address academic and behavioral concerns. Regularly scheduled meetings to review data, discuss students' progress, and inform instruction take place weekly in addition to regularly occurring informal meetings.
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Professional Development:
Our teachers are provided access to ongoing professional development to help them stay updated on best practices in education through our PLCs, teacher collaboration, professional development Google Classroom, training sessions, and meetings.
Parent and Community Involvement:
We involve parents and the community in the education process. This includes parent/teacher communications, Family Engagement Services, involvement in school events, and our PTO organization.
Additional Instructional Time:
Our teachers offer additional instructional time for students who need it - before or after school, during lunch, or during dedicated intervention blocks.
Technology Integration:
We utilize technology for data collection, analysis, and instruction to personalize learning and track student progress.
Universal Screening:
We regularly conduct assessments to identify students who may need additional support.
Smokey Road's Tier 2 program provides targeted interventions and support to students who require additional help beyond what is provided in the general classroom. In addition to tier 1 services, we utilize specific interventions to address student needs in remediating ELA or math classes or in their general classes - usually in small groups. Instruction for Tier 2 students is more focused and intense.
Small-Group Instruction:
Provide small-group instruction for students who need extra support in math or ELA. This allows for more targeted instruction and support. Group size, group members, and duration of interventions will vary based on student needs.
Targeted Skill Development:
We Identify specific skills or concepts our students need to work on and develop focused lessons or activities to address those needs.
Evidence-Based Interventions:
We Implement evidence-based interventions that have been shown to be effective in addressing the specific needs of struggling students.
Differentiated Instruction:
Our teachers differentiate instruction - ie. provide a variety of teaching strategies, resources, and materials to address individual learning styles.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
We keep detailed records of student progress, interventions, and outcomes for accountability and decision-making.
Progress Monitoring:
Continuously monitor student progress to determine if interventions are effective and make adjustments as needed. Our decisions are driven by data.
Teacher Collaboration:
We create room for teacher and support staff collaboration to ensure strategies and insights for helping our students succeed are shared. Our staff members meet regularly to discuss student progress and make adjustments to instruction and interventions as necessary.
Parent Involvement:
We involve parents or guardians in the intervention process - keeping them informed about their child's progress. We provide advice and/or resources home for support and involve them in decision-making.
Professional Development:
Training and professional development is made available for our teachers to enhance their instructional and classroom management skills
When Tier 2 support is found to be unsuccessful in improving a student's academic achievement, work habits, and/or behavior, he/she is then provided Tier 3 support that is individualized for each student based on their specific needs. They continue to receive all that Tier 1 has to offer, but their interventions move from small-group strategies to more intense one-on-one strategies.
Please see the following sections under "Resources" on this website:
Parents/guardians should avail themselves of the information contained in the sections above.
Tier 3 services are provided daily from 8:20-8:50 am according to the following schedule.
Monday & Tuesday - ELA
Wednesday & Thursday - Math
Friday - Behavior / Work Habits
We highly encourage our parents and guardians to ensure their students are on time to school so they can be effectively served. Please check the "Progress Monitoring" section of your student's Tier 3 Google Classroom(s) to monitor their progress with the Tier 3 interventions. Also check your student's regular Google Classrooms, his/her notebooks, and the Parent Portal for Infinite Campus at least 3 times per week in order to be aware of what assignments/tasks your student is supposed to do or should have already done.
