PURPOSE: Please use this as a tool to help place students properly. The intent is to place students in the HIGHEST level they are capable of finding success in. Please consider what you know the student CAN do, not necessarily what they WON’T do.
There will always be special cases, just ask about those.

AP® = Advanced Placement
H = Honors
CP = College Prep
CPS = College Prep with Supports (USUALLY cotaught) - IEP’s USUALLY placed here
January - Teacher complete recommendations
Feb - Students complete schedules and choose electives
Every student needs to be aware of their options and your rec. Discuss individually and be honest.
If a S is demanding something different than what you say, place them where YOU feel is best and let them know they can waive into a different level. Many of these students end up over their head.
You may recommend BOTH courses IF they are BOTH core content courses
Trig and Precalc. Geo and Alg 2. Stats and Calc.
If a student has STATED that they want to double up AND you have had a thorough conversation with the student, then you may list the 2 courses.
If you want the student to take Course X OR Course Y, only recommend for one!
If you have a current S doubling up, the PRIMARY (In sequence) course teacher does the rec.
Recommend ONLY if the course is to be their primary and only Math.
If it’s a second Math, they need to ask for it when scheduling with guidance counselor.
MOST Math electives are grades 10-12. Discuss these with students - we must promote our courses to have kids in as many math courses as possible.
Elective highlights/updates:
Career Math deleted. Advanced Topics deleted. These courses were not serving our kids and have been replaced by ones more current to student needs.
Computer Science AP - great course for anyone interested in programming (Alg 1 prerequisite)
Financial Algebra is now Statistical Finance - great advanced finance course that does a deep dive into the statistics and functions behind the work.
Statistics AP - great for analytical and independent students ready for a demanding, challenging, and rewarding course in a field that connects to many career paths.
Statistics H (NEW!) - wants the Stats at the same deep level, without the AP stress and pressures of time, we'll cover the same material, but have 5-6 more weeks to do it.
