Welcome to the S.P.E.A.K program, where our goal is to help our primary school students develop effective communication skills and become confident, proficient speakers. Our program is designed to teach children to speak for personal empowerment and articulation of knowledge.
In the "Learning to Speak" stage, students will develop the basic skills necessary to effectively communicate, including pronunciation, grammar, fluency, vocabulary and pragmatics. Through interactive activities, role-playing, and oral presentations, students will learn the foundational skills of speaking. These skills will provide them with the tools they need to express themselves effectively and to articulate their thoughts and ideas with clarity and precision.
In the "Speaking to Communicate" stage, students will use speaking as a tool for communication and self-expression. The program focuses on engagement, persuasion, and self-discovery. Students will have access to a wide range of speaking activities, such as public speaking, debates, and group discussions, which will help them to develop their confidence and communication skills. They will learn how to express themselves persuasively and how to structure an argument.
We also emphasize listening skills, and helping students understand the importance of effective communication in different situations. Our program is tailored to meet the needs of each individual student, ensuring that they make steady progress in their oracy skills and confidence. We believe that effective communication is a key to personal empowerment and the ability to articulate one's own thoughts and ideas. We are excited to see our students grow as speakers and discover the joy of effective communication."
The "Learning to Speak" stage of the S.P.E.A.K program is designed to help students develop the basic skills necessary to effectively communicate. This stage focuses on four key skills: pronunciation, syntax, fluency, and vocabulary.
Students will work on improving their articulation and intonation through pronunciation drills and exercises that focus on specific sounds, syllables, and words. They will learn about the International Phonetic Alphabet and learn how to use it to improve their pronunciation.
Students will use the Colourful Semantics method to learn grammar rules and structures through interactive activities and exercises. They will learn about sentence structure, verb tenses, and punctuation. They will also learn about idiomatic expressions and colloquialism.
Students will practice fluency through oral reading and recitation exercises. They will read passages aloud and work on their intonation, expression, and pacing. They will also work on their pronunciation and grammar while reading.
Students will learn new vocabulary through word games, flashcards, and real-life context exercises. They will learn how to use context clues to understand new words and how to use new words in context. They will also learn how to use a dictionary and thesaurus.
Students will learn the social aspects of language use, including non-verbal communication, turn-taking, and cultural differences in communication. They will also learn about appropriate language use in different situations, such as formal and informal settings. They will practice these skills through role-playing activities and discussions.
Personal Empowerment focuses on building students' confidence and communication skills through public speaking, advocacy, and communication skills training. They will learn how to inform, influence and entertain.
Students will learn how to organize their thoughts, use effective body language and engage with the audience. They will develop their skills in research and presentation of information, using a variety of multimedia. They will learn how to use visual aids and other tools to present their information and make it more engaging. They will also learn how to answer questions and handle interruptions during their presentation.
Students will learn how to use persuasive language and how to structure an argument. They will engage in mock-campaigns, where they can apply their skills and gain experience in advocating for a cause. They will learn about the different types of persuasive language and how to use them effectively. They will also learn about the different types of arguments and how to use evidence to support their claims.
Students will learn how to use humor, storytelling, and other techniques to entertain their audience. They will learn how to use the power of storytelling to convey a message and how to use humor to create a more engaging and memorable experience for their audience. They will learn how to use different types of humor, such as irony, satire, and puns. They will also learn how to use nonverbal communication, such as gestures and facial expressions, to enhance their performances.
Articulation of Knowledge focuses on helping students express themselves effectively through debate & discussion and research & presentation. Students will engage in debates and discussions on various topics to practice expressing their own opinions and listening to others. They will conduct research on topics of their choice and present their findings in formal presentations.
Students will engage in debates and discussions on various topics to practice expressing their own opinions and listening to others. They will learn how to research and gather information on different topics, and how to structure and present their arguments. They will also learn how to listen actively and respond to the arguments of others. They will learn about the different types of debate formats, such as formal debates and panel discussions, and how to use them effectively.
Students will conduct research on a topic of their choice and present their findings in a formal presentation. They will learn how to find and evaluate sources, how to organize and present their research, and how to use different multimedia to present their findings in an engaging way. They will also learn how to answer questions and handle interruptions during their presentation.
