Here is what we are working on in each class!!!

8th Grade:  Tessellations

          Students learned about the art of Escher and his tessellations.  The students were shown three different ways to make tessellation. They were tasked to pick one the three to create their tessellation art.  See below for sketchbook assignments and due dates.

                                                                                 Assignments #1: DUE DATE:  Week of Jan. 19th

Artists sometimes combine the features of several animals to create a totally new creature.  Sketch that creature.(SKETCH MUST BE COLORED)


Assignment #2: DUE DATE:  Week of Feb. 2nd

One of the most basic graphic design forms is the poster.  List some important qualities of an effective and eye-catching poster.


Assignment #3: DUE DATE:  Week of Feb. 23rd

  7th Grade: Symbolism in art

Students were introduced to the three categories of symbols an artist may use in their art.  They were tasked with using an "important to them" symbol from one of these categories in their Tar Paper painting. See below for sketchbook assignments and due dates.

Assignment #1: DUE DATE:  Week of Jan. 19th

Comic strip artists illustrate stories as a series of pictures in sequence.  Draw yourself performing an activity from start to finish, such as opening your locker, taking out a book, and closing your locker again.  Caption each picture(SKETCH MUST BE COLORED)


Assignment #2: DUE DATE:  Week of Feb. 2nd

Symbols are important to some artists.  There are three different types of symbols, Universal, Personal and Cultural.  Pick one and draw 5 symbols for that type. (CAN BE IN PENCIL AND/OR COLOR)

Draw 5 things that open.(SKETCH MUST BE COLORED)



         6th Grade: Patterned Painting

The students were introduced to the different ways artists use pattern in their art.  They are tasked with creating a composition using pattern to add details to their artwork.  See below for sketchbook assignments and due dates.

Assignment #1: DUE DATE:  Week of Jan. 19th

Artists use many different materials to create works of art.  Clay, paint, and wood are some examples.  List some of the art materials you have used. Then identify the ones you liked the best.


Assignment #2: DUE DATE:  Week of Feb. 2nd

Illustrators are artists that create pictures to accompany text in a book.  The pictures add interest to the story.  Describe and draw the pictures this phrase brings to mind: “IF SPIDERS WERE GIANTS THEN…” Draw a minimum of two pictures,(SKETCH MUST BE COLORED)
