Hornets (1-0) and Lady Hornets (0-1) Split Season Opener

Cook's boys and girls split their season opening match at Thomas County Central on Thursday, with the boys winning 5-0 and the girls dropping a close 2-3 decision.

The Lady Hornets dropped a 2-3 decision to Thomas County Central in heartbreaking fashion. TCC jumped out on top taking the top doubles line over Sarah Betts and Jaylee Barber. The Lady Hornets responded by taking to match tiebreakers to take a 2-1 team lead. Kate Dorminey tied the score with a 6-1, 5-7, 11-9 win at the third singles line, and MariAllen Boling followed with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 win at the second singles line. The Yellow Jackets responded and took momentum with a three-set win at the top singles spot with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 win over Lilly Dixon. With the score tied at 2-2, TCC clinched the match at the second doubles line, 6-3, 6-4 over Laila Fulp and Laken Croft.

The Hornet boys dominated the Yellow Jackets throughout the line-up, winning all 5 matches without dropping a set. Cook scored the first two points within minutes of each other as Jeet Patel won 6-1, 6-0 at the second singles line, finishing just ahead of Chris Bryan and Drew Martin's 6-0, 6-2 win at the top double line. Caleb Pezent clinched the win at the top singles line with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Will O'Quinn increased the team lead to 4-0, winning 6-2, 6-1 at third singles. Ace Tessier and Vraj Patel completed the sweep for the Hornet Boys, winning 6-1, 6-4 at second doubles.

Both Hornet teams will host Lanier County on February 15 and Brantley County on February 17 at the Cook Tennis Complex.
