Even though this issue is difficult to talk about, it is important that we know about suicide awareness. We do not take the conversation lightly - if you or anyone you know is considering this decision, please seek immediate help. Talk to your parents, guidance counselor, or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
The fact is, suicide is a major epidemic in our society. According to the CDC, it is the second largest cause of death for people ages 15-24. That means we need to know what's going on so we can be friends to people in need. Talk to people. Ask how they are feeling. Figure out what they need to feel validated, loved, and appreciated. Everyone can make a difference by seeking out positivity in their interactions with other people.
It's an issue that has impacted all of us in one way or another - human lives are valuable, and that means we need to advocate for one another. We can take action by reaching out, watching for signs, and seeking compassion for others in all that we do. Challenge: be a friend to someone new today. Talk to a person you've never met, get to know them, and form a connection. The smallest actions can make the biggest difference.
