EMOTE consists of a core team of CONQUER-certified peer counselors (CPCs or "peers") and a substance use disorder professional (SUD-P) who have complementary experience with addiction, homelessness, assessment skills, and advocacy. Peers facilitate appointments with clinicians from CONQUER Clinics and are supported by a practice manager and a medical director.
EMOTE is a pilot program funded through a grant from the Washington Health Care Authority awarded to the City of Everett. CONQUER Clinics is the contractor conducting day-to-day clinical and social services. We are working hard to establish this program as a sustainable social service.
“I’m Christine, I've been in active recovery since 2022 after 13 years of struggles. I grew up around drugs and alcohol and have been through physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and sexual abuse. All of this has motivated me to become a CPC, it fills my heart to help others get through similar situations and circumstances, to walk side by side with them to the other side! Just like my support network has done (and keeps doing) for me! Recovery is possible, whatever recovery looks like to you.”
“Previously I came from jails, prisons, institutions, and the streets for 20 years, to now having almost 7 years clean and sober. I fought hard to establish a safe and healthy environment to regain full custody of my two boys three years ago, and I am now stable enough to pursue my passion for helping others with compassion, empathy, and understanding. My goal is to work with those who have no advocacy and to help them navigate the barriers of the systems in place, to achieve a healthier life.”
"I have been a licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) for over 14 years and provide low-barrier assessments for under-housed people in Everett requesting SUD treatment. My favorite thing about my career is knowing treatment is available, recovery is possible and remission of SUD is sustainable. I ride in the van or am on call via telehealth for same-day SUD assessments."
I have worked in health care my entire career and CONQUER has redefined the essence of helping others for me. The compassion exhibited by every CONQUER employee inspires me to strive for personal improvement. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this team.
"One of the major frustrations of medical training is grappling with the reality that many of the people who most need health care services are simply unable to access them because our system is not built around their needs. It has been inspiring to get to work with this innovative team dedicated to bringing mental health and substance use treatment to unhoused clients, where and how THEY need it. The opportunity to learn from our clients, peer navigators, and community partners has been an amazing antidote to the helplessness medical trainees often experience trying to support our underserved communities."
"Coming alongside someone in one of their greatest moments of need and being able to offer treatments that line up with their goals is my favorite part of being an emergency physician. Everett's Health Engagement Hub urgent care is a non-judgemental place where most medical needs can be met without a hospital visit."
"I'm humbled to see such an amazing group of individuals performing such a needed service in our community. Watching CONQUER staff care so well for people whom many others will not care for is why I continue to show up and work hard to make an environment where workers can thrive and people can get the care they need, in the way they need it."
