Now that our Year 1's have practiced their 'Push and Drag' painting techniques with their alphabet designs; we've moved onto creating something that puts all our newfound knowledge together.
Continuing with our learning of the 'hot and cold' colours, our Year 1's are painting the alphabet in the style of Jasper Johns.
Our Year 1's know what primary colours are from our lesson last week and now they're experimenting with hot and cold colours in the style of famous American artist Jasper Johns.
The Year 1's have had their first introduction to a famous painter Piet Mondrian – using line, shape, colour, and space – we challenged our Year 1's to create their own little Mondrian
Using our newfound knowledge of the art elements we gave our Year 1's ink and got to see some awesome experimentation with colour and value.
To get our little but mighty Year 1's engaged and interested in the elements of art, we created a fun and informative way to introduce some of the most key aspects of art. The Year 1's learned through the Art Factory what Line, Shape, Colour, Space, Texture and Value mean by using their brand new sketchbooks. We love to experiment in the art room and this was the perfect chance for our Year 1's to have fun but also learn some important skills when it comes to art.
Moving in a similar direction as last week, but adding more of a challenge, we asked our Year 1's to follow along to another one of our favourite stories, "Harold and the Purple Crayon". We tasked them with drawing the adventures Harold embarks on. However, we were only allowed to use a purple pencil.
As this is the first time the current Year 1's have properly set foot inside the Art Room, we had some fun during our first week back with drawing using colouring pencils and oil pastels. While reading a wonderful book about an artist called Frog, the Year 1's tucked into their materials and showcased their drawing capabilities.
