Overview

Why? - The French exchange program can be a unique and transformative learning experience. By living with a host family, you will learn about another culture and use French in the real world, outside the classroom. Students also have a chance to experience daily home life and attend classes with their host students, valuable opportunities that no tourist can access. It is not uncommon for students to establish friendships that last long after the exchange has ended.

Who? -  Current Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors enrolled in French 2 and above are eligible to apply for this unique cultural and language enrichment program. Preference is given to Juniors and Seniors in good academic standing. Eighteen students from CCHS will host students from Versailles, France.

Note: It may be possible for CCHS students to host a French student in April 2023 even though they cannot join the French travel in February 2023.

What? - The French Exchange program is a reciprocal educational exchange between the teachers and students of Concord Carlisle High School and Notre Dame du Grandchamp High School, a private school in Versailles, France. This program has been running for more than twenty years!

Where? - Our itinerary takes us to historic Versailles with its palace and parks, where students live with their host families for two weeks. Often students are able to spend a week vacationing with their hosts, visiting sites such as Monet’s gardens at Giverny, the châteaux of the Loire valley, or the landing beaches of Normandy. Our field trips take the group into Paris to discover the wonderful monuments, museums, gardens and cafés of the City of Light.

Logistics

When? - CCHS students travel to Versailles from February 10 to February 24/25, 2023. Students from France will travel to Boston from April 15-28/29, 2023. Students are responsible for the school work they will miss during the five school days they are away.

How? - Click here to apply!

Cost

How much? - The estimated cost of the 2022/23 French exchange program is $1,900. This includes round-trip airfare Boston/Paris, all of our expenses in France including field trips, plus expenses related to hosting the students of Versailles in February.

The actual cost of the exchange may change, depending on the airfare, insurance and current prices in France. A down payment of $900 per participant will be due upon receipt of an acceptance email.

If money is left over at the conclusion of the exchange, it will be returned to the CCHS participants. There are modest scholarships available for those families who are not able to cover the entire cost of the exchange.
