As we are a publicly funded charter school, all scholars must participate in our state testing as well as our ongoing adaptive benchmark assessments. These benchmark tests help your ST to see if there are areas of need for our scholars as well as monitoring their grade level goals. Scholars who are shown through testing to need more support in areas of math and language arts will also qualify for our fantastic, FREE, online tutoring program (see tutoring page for more details).
Please watch this video if you're having trouble setting up your scholar's Gmail account. Remember, all scholars need to have their Compass email setup to use for attending all Live Instruction Classes and for Benchmark Assessments too. If after watching the video, you continue to have issues setting it up, please submit an IT ticket here.
STAR is a computer-adaptive diagnostic for mathematics and reading that measures your child’s general achievement in math, reading, or early literacy.
STAR results are used for:
Identifying what skills he or she is ready to learn.
Helping plan instructional support activities.
Tracking his or her progress toward academic targets.
Estimating his or her proficiency on state tests.
Estimating his or her mastery of standards.
STAR results are only one aspect of your child’s learning journey. We use the results as part of our comprehensive assessment process to measure achievement and growth.
Scholars will encounter basic questions that may seem easy. They will see questions about content they haven’t learned yet. The diagnostics adapt as they answer each question to find the specific and accurate knowledge and skill level of each scholar.
STAR is taken three (3) times a year:
STAR Diagnostic in September
STAR Benchmark in February
STAR Summative at the end of the school year
Additional benchmarks may be assigned more frequently to monitor intervention programs and to track program effectiveness.
Scholars in grades 3-8, 10 & 11 take the computer based state test each Spring. The test is taken at sites proctored by CCS teachers and usually takes 2 half-days to complete.
Test sites are usually announced in early Spring. Information will be sent out to families in early Spring on when/where they are to test.
PRACTICE:
