Depth of Complexity, specifically the icons shown below, were created to build a deeper understanding of material and to help scholars think about things on a deeper level. These were initially created to use with gifted scholars so that teachers could challenge them beyond the rest of the class, but using the icons for all scholars has proven to help everyone dive deeper and think deeper regardless of where they are at academically.
Commonly used assignments are using "frames." Teachers typically prefill each section of the frame with an image from the chart above and insert a prompt for the scholars to look at and respond to. Below you will see an example D & C frame as well as a Google Slide Presentation with some blank frames for you to utilize if you want to - remember, all of this is completely OPTIONAL.
There are SO many different ways to use the depths and complexity icons - you don't have to use the frame style below - you can focus on one or two of the icons and create your own frame to use.
