Information about RBA and Surcharging compliance

The fees we charge are per-use charges and are not considered a payment surcharge

To assist schools who may seek to pass on these per-use charges, we have included the RBA Summary on all per-use feature invoices (CPMX) issued by us. As Compass does not forward on any additional merchant fees and charges, to Australian clients, that would be in addition to our standard per-use charges it is important that clients carefully review any additional payment related charges they may choose to apply. In the event a school chooses to levy a payment surcharge (outside of our platform), it is the school's responsibility to ensure they meet any RBA obligations.

In general terms, the RBA’s Standard No.3 of 2016 defines a surcharge to mean an amount charged by a merchant, in addition to the price of goods or services, for accepting payment through a card transaction. Merchants may choose to surcharge to recover part, or all, of their Cost of Acceptance for card payments (as defined in the Standard). As the school-based fees that are charged by Compass apply to any and all payment methods processed through our platform (regardless of the payment instrument) the associated fees do not constitute a surcharge.

End-user surcharging

We do not apply any payment surcharge upon any local credit card payments made directly through our platform using Visa or Mastercard (Standard Credit Cards).

In some circumstances an end-user, at the point of checkout, may be presented with alternate methods of payments (for example Premium Cards or payment services), which may attract a payment surcharge. This may include payments through Paypal, American Express or other providers. In this circumstance, any surcharge amount will be displayed during the payment process and any surcharge would be agreed to by the end user.

Any surcharge component is charged by Compass to the end-user and is not included in the daily school funds transfer. We are committed to ensuring that any payments by premium cards or payment services clearly display the surcharge amount and do not exceed RBA thresholds.
