Anatomy & Physiology

Prerequisites: B or better in Biology

Level: Junior & Senior

The first semester of Anatomy & Physiology will involve the introduction of the human body and the underlying concepts that will facilitate deeper understanding of the human system. Topics include: applied biological chemistry, cell structure and function, human genetics and inheritance, and human physiological processes (including protein synthesis and respiration). Independent research projects will focus on student attention to specific areas of human biology, tying together reading and writing skills with scientific knowledge and practice.

The second semester of Anatomy & Physiology will be a continuation of topics explored in the first semester. Topics will include both the anatomical and physiological aspects of the various human systems notably including the following: skeletal system, muscular system, circulatory systems, respiratory system, and reproductive systems. Labs and other hands-on activities will reinforce covered topics and provide students with first-hand experience with various processes in the human body.

This is a high level college preparatory course. As such, students should expect a higher than normal workload that includes memorization of various anatomical features and application of physiological concepts to known and novel systems.
