Sit and Reach

Flexibility Week

This week students will be testing their Flexibility!

Flexibility is the ability to move joints and muscles to their maximum range of motion. A person’s flexibility can be maintained or increased by proper stretching. Stretching and flexibility are important for everyone, from kids to adults. Some benefits to having good flexibility include preventing injuries, better balance and coordination, increased muscle/bone strength, and having an overall healthier lifestyle.

In the Columbia Fitness Test, Flexibility is measured through the Sit & Reach Test. Students will need to spend some time stretching certain muscle groups to try to master the Sit & Reach. Click the video link to see some examples of stretching exercises that can help you become more flexible. Follow along with these stretches and test your own flexibility.

If you find that you are having a little trouble with these exercises, don't worry! Just keep trying! Remember: it takes time and practice to increase your flexibility.
