This week we will be focusing on Speed and Agility!
Speed is defined as the ability to move the body in one direction as fast as possible.
Agility is defined as the ability to accelerate, decelerate, stabilize, and quickly change directions with proper posture.
The Columbia Fitness Test measures students' Speed and Agility through the Shuttle Run. The Shuttle run involves repetitive running back and forth over a distance of 30 feet. Runners begin on one line, run to the opposite line, pick up a small block and return it to the start line as quickly as possible, and then repeat with a second block. It's best to run the Shuttle Run on a hard surface if possible.
As with most physical activities, it is important to warm up your body before trying to perform the Shuttle Run. Click the video link to view some warm-up exercises and an example of the Shuttle Run being performed.
Test your speed and agility by making your own shuttle run at home. As always, try your very best! How did you measure up?
