Climbers were invited to sign up to experience our prototype device.
Climbers were given the following during the experience:
The device with a pull string.
Climbing rope.
A mounted anchor at 6' height to test the device on.
Picture instructions on device procedure.
The users were left by themselves to use the device and recorded so the team could later gain insights on their unbiased use of the device.
While aiming to see usability, the team was also monitoring a few key device performance indicators.
If users were able to remove the carabiner 5 times in a row.
If the user is able to remove the carabiner in 30 seconds or less, once the device is set up.
If the user is able to set up the device in 1 minute.
The video below shows some of the insights gained from the user clinic.
Users were very excited to see the device work.
Instructions need to be improved in the future.
Video instructions could aid in some users to gain quick understanding of the device.
Once the users got their first success, the use of the device was seamless.
The length of the pull rope hindered the ease of use.
Future iterations will explore different ways of threading the rope through the anchor.
