User Need Statement:

Quentin needs a means to increase safety and redundancy when sport climbing. 

User Background:

• Has been climbing for 11 years. 

• Primarily does bouldering and sport climbing. 

• Participated in sport climbing competitions when he was younger. 

• Has had several big falls, which lead him to transition to mostly bouldering. 

User Pain Points:

• The fear of clipping into an anchor that is in a difficult position. If there is not a solid hold, or the anchor is difficult to reach, there is a chance of falling. 

• Anchors on some routes are poor, and do not seem reliable. 

• When bouldering, placing pads can be difficult on uneven terrain. 

Insights:

• Quentin emphasized the potential for falling while clipping into a new anchor since you need to take one hand off the wall.

• The fact that a bail 'biner is a single point of failure was a concern. A system with redundancy would be preferable.
