English 12

This course is designed to capstone a student’s formal literacy education at Collegiate Academy, and is aligned with both the Jefferson County Curriculum Alignment Project, as well as preparation for the Senior Thesis. Our units of study and some major projects are listed at the end of the syllabus, but we generally focus on different ways to see the world around us based on theoretical lenses and contemporary issues in the first semester. The second half of the course is dedicated to an in-depth qualitative research study. We will be reading literary fiction and non-fiction in a variety of genres, as well as adapted theoretical writings to understand multiple perspectives literate people may use to explain of the world around us. Students will also use vocabulary and grammar development activities to strengthen their command of written and spoken English.
