FAMILY CHOICE PORTAL
All means All ... all the time.
As we move into the second quarter, OA will provide families with two (2) schooling options to choose from. Each option guarantees students an accessible, equitable and individualized education. Busing, healthy meals, 21st century technology, related services, and social-emotional supports will be offered to all families, in addition to safe, in-person choices that prioritize student well-being.
All OA families are encouraged to first read, and then choose which back-to-school option that best fits their needs. Your household selection will determine how your child/children will experience Quarter 2 (October 26 through December 18) of the 2020-21 academic school year.
Please choose your preferred Option by September 25, 2020, 11:59pm.
OPTION 1: Virtual Model
The Virtual Model is Collegiate Academies' approach to distance learning, a form of learning which takes place exclusively online and at home from a computer. Students are expected to engage in digital classrooms fully equipped with live teaching, equity-driven instruction and virtual academic supports.
The Virtual Model is a great choice for families not yet ready for traditional back-to-school "in-person" experiences. Note that this is the only option that happens full-time from the safety of your home. Opportunities Academy will furnish your student with a Chromebook, communication device, Wi-Fi, or other technology required for your student to receive a high quality educational experience.
Related services, like speech, physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and transition services will take place online as well. Students who opt into this model will not be eligible to receive wages for internship work.
OPTION 2: Half-Time model
2 Days a Week In Person,
2 days a week virtual
The Half-Time Model provides safe, reliable, in-person instruction for students to engage in instruction. Families who choose this option will engage in at-home distance learning two-days a week and in-school learning two-days per week.
The Half-Time Model is a great choice for families who don't have the capacity to support students in online learning four-days a week and may feel more comfortable sending students to school in a smaller, static group.
Students will be assigned to an A or B group, with no more than 50% of our student body on campus per day.
Student transportation will consist of school buses with one student to a seat. There will be all-day classmate groupings; in internship experience in the morning; and instruction in the afternoon. Some instruction may take place in a distance learning fashion to reduce the number of students and staff in each classroom, with some groups of students watching a teacher's lesson live on a projector, with support from members of our Job Coach team.
Students will not travel off-campus for externships and community trips during the first quarter.
Safety precautions (i.e., masks, PPE, hand washing, social distancing, and static groups) will be implemented while on campus, with daily temperature checks and symptom monitoring taking place for all students, staff, and visitors upon arrival to campus. There will also be regular sanitation of spaces throughout the day.
Related services, like speech, physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, and transition services will take place either online or on days when students are in person (depending on provider availability).
Eligible students may receive wages for internship hours on days when they work on campus.
Opportunities Academy will furnish your student with a Chromebook, communication device, Wi-Fi, or other technology required for your child/children to receive a high quality educational experience on days when students are learning from home.
