Beginning on Monday 10/26, students who have chosen to participate in our Study Hall model will have the option to return to our school buildings twice a week. For more information on our study hall model, safety protocols, and more, please read below.
Daily Experience
What will my child's day look like on campus?
In Quarter 2, some families have chosen for their child to attend in-person twice a week. These students will attend the same virtual classes from one of our classrooms. Students will be in groups of 25 or less (typically around 15 in a standard classroom) and will participate in their virtual classes on their ChromeBooks.
During their time on campus, students must wear masks and remain socially distanced. During breaks between classes and meals, students will be able to socialize and connect with their peers and staff within their group while adhering to these safety protocols.
Will the school schedule be the same when students are in person?
Yes, students will be participating in their virtual classes at the same times.
What staff members are leading study hall?
School staff are leading our study hall spaces. These staff members include teachers, culture deans, leadership team members, etc. We are glad students will soon have the opportunity to see these familiar faces!
Can students in person ask questions and get help from the study hall coach?
Students may ask the staff member in their study hall space for help with technical needs, if they need to use the restroom, etc. The staff member in the room will not necessarily be an expert in the student's class, so the student should direct any academic questions to the teacher of the virtual class.
Can students talk to one another throughout the day?
During breaks between classes and meals, students will be able to socialize and connect with their peers and staff within their group while adhering to safety protocols. During class, students will be engaging in a variety of academic work, which will include discussion and debate with their classmates.
Will students switch classes?
If attending study hall in-person, students will remain in the same room for each of their virtual classes. They will not switch classrooms during the day to reduce the risk of exposure and transmission.
Will there be any after-school or co-curricular programming? What will that entail?
Many schools are holding athletic and co-curricular activities after-school, in adherence to guidelines from our city, NOLA Public Schools, and the LHSAA. Please reach out to your school if you have questions about specific activities.
Will students receive meals on campus?
Students will be provided with breakfast and lunch on the days that they are on campus. Most students will eat in the same room that they are in for their classes. Students may also eat in the cafeteria or outside. Meals will be served hot.
Will my student be marked absent if they stay home for the day and do their work remotely?
No, your child will be marked present based on their attendance of their virtual classes. If your child is supposed to be on campus for study hall but does not attend, we will reach out to notify you and see how your child is doing.
Safety Protocols
Do students have to wear masks?
Everyone in our buildings - staff, students, and visitors - is required to wear a mask. Staff members may take their masks off if they are working alone in their classroom or their office. Staff and students may remove their masks while eating, but they must remain socially distant during that time.
What other safety protocols will be in effect?
Safety protocols include the following:
Students should stay home (and participate in virtual classes if they are able to) if they are sick and/or have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (cough, fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, headache, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea) and/or have had contact with someone with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
If your child has symptoms of COVID-19 and/or someone in your house has tested positive for COVID-19, please contact our front office.
Students, staff, and visitors must wear masks while on campus.
Students, staff, and visitors will have their temperature taken and answer health screener questions upon arrival.
Students and staff will practice hand hygiene and social distancing throughout the day.
Classroom spaces will be disinfected each day, and high touch surfaces including door handles and restrooms will be disinfected throughout the day.
How will arrival and dismissal work with social distancing?
During arrival, students will remain on their school bus until there is enough room for them to maintain a safe social distance. Students will exit their bus and complete our health screening and temperature check before proceeding to their classroom.
During dismissal, students will leave in a staggered fashion to ensure that hallways are not overly crowded.
How will I be contacted if a student or adult tests positive?
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, all members of our school community will be notified via text or email. If your child is considered a close contact of that individual, you will receive a phone call and email with additional information.
Am I allowed to come onto campus?
We are currently limiting visitors in our buildings to essential needs only. If you have a need, we encourage you to first call your school's front office. If possible, we will answer your questions over the phone or create a plan to bring the items (paperwork, computer, etc.) you need to your vehicle. If you need to come into the building, we will review safety protocols before you come.
Transportation
Is transportation provided? When will I receive my bus route?
All students who choose to attend in-person will receive their bus stop and time before we return. A member of your school's staff will call with this information the week of 10/19.
Can I drop my child off?
Yes, you may drop your child off. If you will be driving your child to school, please keep your child in your car until a staff member comes to conduct a health screening.
Can I pick my child up early?
Yes, though we encourage you to limit this so that your child does not miss out on valuable instructional time. If you plan to pick your child up early, please call the front office to notify them in advance. Due to our need to restrict visitors in our buildings, we will follow a different process for early releases.
