OA to start the year in virtual classrooms

From August 17th through at least Labor Day, OA students will kick off the year in virtual classrooms (also known as "distance learning"). While our schedule is forthcoming, families can expect an increased number of instructional minutes each day, live class sessions, and more structured activities for your students to complete at home.

Materials pick up

Be on the look out for a call from our staff about picking up instructional materials and technology between August 12 - 14, from 9am - 3pm at OA, 2625 Thalia St.

ALL students will receive instructional materials, headphones, and an OA yard sign to show some school pride. Though our community is dispersed and connecting online, we want to show our strength during adverse times!

During materials pick up, we will do a curbside exchange of materials to limit contact between individuals. If you are in need of help with troubleshooting technology, you can receive assistance indoors one family at a time. Masks are required for all guests.

Call 504-503-1421 if you have any questions about this.

Internet Resources

To better support families without access to Wi-Fi services and Internet access, we highly recommended taking advantage of a current offer from Cox Communications, providing two free months of service to qualified residents. Learn more about Cox's "Connect2Compete" program here. We encourage signing up by early August!

Disclaimer: CA hotspots are currently on backorder. Please sign up for the Cox service, and we will be in touch if more hotspots become available

Food Support

OA students will continue to be eligible for curbside meal pickup on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM at 2 locations:

G.W. Carver Rosenwald Collegiate

3059 Higgins Blvd 1801 LB Landry Ave

New Orleans, LA 70126 New Orleans, LA 70114

You’ll receive 2 breakfasts + 2 lunches on Mondays and 3 breakfasts + 3 lunches on Wednesdays.

Other Assistance

We realize that between new economic hardship and dramatic lifestyle changes resulting from the pandemic, that this is a difficult time for many families. We will use this section to share city- and state-wide resources that may help members of our OA community weather this uncertain time.

Please feel free to share other resources you may know of by connecting with us on social media, or by emailing hello@opportunitiesacademy.org.
