Laker Library Book Club
Last fall we re-launched our 2024-25 Book Club and we had a great time reading and discussing wonderful books. In the fall we read the book Accountable by Dashka Slater. We followed that up with the VT Reads book, Gather by Vermont author, Kenneth M. Cadow. And our final read of the year was the Young Adult adaptation of the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Our conversations were rich and thoughtful. Thank you to all of the students who participated last year.
This year, we've got some 23 readers involved in book club! We kicked off our reading year with When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka. Currently we're finishing up a read of Mary Shelley's classic gothic drama, Frankenstein, and we're in the process of choosing our next read which we'll begin in February. Students are sharing ideas and voting for their top choices. The only criteria for this next read is that it has to be something light this time! :)
We would love to welcome even more new members. If you enjoy reading and discussing books with your peers in a no-stakes, relaxed, safe environment, see Ms. Binder to join the group!
Every year, Book Riot puts together a challenge to inspire readers to branch out and try a range of books over the course of the year. With a list of 24 challenges, you'll be looking to read about two books per month, and you'll have an opportunity to choose the best books for you in each category. We've put some recommendations together if you want some ideas, but feel free to choose any books that work for you. You can pick up challenge form in the library, or read more about the challenge and print/save your own form here.
If you love graphic novels or Manga, this challenge is for you. Complete the reading challenge by choosing your path through the gameboard.
*ComicsPlus is our new e-book source for graphic novels and Manga titles. Browse and read all on your device (sign in with your CSD Google account to gain access). There's a huge array of titles in the ComicsPlus catalog.
