Please have lesson plans in plain view or easily accessible. Teachers can use any form they wish on which to write their plans as long as they contain the following components:
Topic
North Carolina Standard Course of Study Reference - Your daily written lesson plans should always be aligned to the appropriate goals and levels dictated by the NC Essential Standards and/or Common Core Standards as appropriate for your content area
Essential Questions/Objectives - What do you want the students to learn and be able to do before they leave your room each day?
Agenda
Instructional Strategies
Assessment - Assessments can be formal or informal, but they MUST be done daily. The teacher should know what each student has learned or not learned during the lesson. The teacher uses this data to create and/or modify future lessons.
Homework - Homework is to be an extension of the day’s lesson and should appropriately challenge the students.
Components in red MUST be included on your board and updated daily.
All teachers contribute to creating assessments.
All teachers will reteach and retest unmastered objectives on unit tests
Common rubrics must be used for all projects and formal writing assignments will be used and approved by the department chair.
Common assessments must be used a minimum of three times per semester.
PLCs must be consistent in re-assessing long term writing assignments and projects.
Students must complete at least one intervention or qualifier prior to retesting. Interventions may include - web based programs, writing assignments, and teacher-made review, test corrections with explanations, tutoring, etc.
Test corrections do not count as a retest- they can be used as intervention/qualifier prior to retest.
Retests must be taken within two weeks of original test date. The student must work with the teacher to make arrangements.
All retests must be common among content teachers and should be created at the same time as the original assessment.
All teachers will be responsible for monitoring student progress.
Establish Norms (What are the shared agreements?)
