In accordance with CMS Board Policy (IKAA-R), a comprehensive exam shall be administered at the end of each course, at a time determined according to the CMS school calendar. There are no exemptions to final exam. The exam must count as 20% of a student’s final grade in a year course or 20% of a student’s final grade in a semester course. The teacher-created comprehensive exam shall cover the entire course content. A copy of the teacher-created comprehensive exam for each course taught will be due to assigned administrator or designee prior to the first day of exams. VOCATS tests which are taken at the end of the course in Career and Technical Education courses also count as of 20% of the students’ final grade.
All teachers at Independence will print mid-quarter progress reports. Progress should be distributed in accordance with the dates outline by CMS. Signed progress reports for all students are due back within 5 school days. It is critical that teachers are organized and collect these upon return and keep them for documentation. If students do not return the progress report within 5 school days, it is the teacher’s responsibility to contact the parent. A list of potential failures should be sent to the counselor after the Progress Reports are issued. Reminders will be provided via the weekly bulletin.

An essential part of every teacher’s responsibility is to provide additional help, reteaching, and tutoring to students. To that end, each teacher will establish a weekly tutoring schedule and publish the schedule in their classroom, syllabus, and the teacher’s webpage.
