Hello! I’m Sonya McKelvey- Whitener. A 5th grade Math and Science Lead Teacher at GVSA-Upper Campus. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. I later obtained my Masters Degree (M.Ed) in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I have taught and impacted the lives of thousands of students and their families in CMS for 20+ years.

Each school year provides me with an opportunity to form positive relationships with my students and their family’s. Preparing for greatness and beyond daily is my motto. All students deserve a right to be treated fairly and have an Equitable Education.
