Scholarship Spotlight
The Next NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians from households making $80,000 or less pursue higher education by fully covering tuition and fees at any community college or more than half, if not all, of tuition and fees to attend any public university in the state. The best part? It’s money that doesn’t have to be repaid.
QuestBridge connects high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds with a thriving community and transformative educational, career, and life opportunities that help propel them to lives of fulfillment, meaning, and purpose. Rich financial aid packages are often awarded to students admitted to top colleges through QuestBridge.

Scholarship Basics
What are scholarships?
A scholarship is a form of financial aid to help students pay for education beyond high school. Scholarships can be awarded based on criteria such as academic merit, diversity and inclusion, athletic skill, and financial need. An excellent example of scholarships available to Garinger HS students are the Garinger Foundation Scholarships.
Where can you find out about scholarships?
Scholarship research and applications can be completed throughout a student's education, though the bulk of work is done in the student's senior year of high school. Students should begin their research with the college(s) that interest them, as most colleges offer some type of scholarship. You can also check with your high school, employers (student's and parent's/guardian's), and community sponsors such as civic groups and places of worship, to name a few others. Finally, you can also use scholarship search apps and engines such as CFNC, College Board and Fastweb.
How do you apply for scholarships?
Scholarship applications usually require a few things, depending on the scholarship and the criteria set by the scholarship provider. Typically, you will fill out an application, submit a resume and possibly a transcript. Sometimes you will also submit an essay and/or letter(s) of recommendation. Each person or group that provides a scholarship gets to decide the criteria you must meet and the application requirements you must fulfill.
