Good morning my young scientists. I cannot believe that we are the end of the 19-20 school year. What a different year it's been and I've missed you all terribly. I hope you have a wonderful summer and continue learning. Remember science is all around us. It's in our homes, bodies, backyards and in the sky. Science is everywhere. As Mystery Doug would say, "Stay Curious." I can't wait to see you next school year as awesome 1st graders.
Bees! Bees! Everywhere. Watch this short video to learn how bees make honey and then do the short extension activity. Be careful not to get too close. We need bees to help our environment, but their stings are certainly no fun! The next mini lesson encourages you to think like an inventor.

Good Morning my wonderful scientist. I can't believe that this is our last full week of school. It's been a different year for all of us, but I hope that you were able to continue learning and exploring science. To prepare for our virtual scavenger hunt we will review Matter. I've included a Mystery Science Link and some amazing videos that show that ice isn't the only thing that melts when it gets too hot.

Happy Tuesday, I hope you enjoyed your long Memorial Day Weekend. This week will continue to learn about Lifecycles. All living things have a lifecycle.
Watch the short video that teaches all about the lifecycle of a frog. Complete the lifecycle worksheet. If you can't print that's ok. Draw and color your own frog lifecycle project or create one with things you collect from around the house. If you have the supplies available try the Edible lifecycle craft.

Happy Monday, let's start the week by taking a virtual field trip with Nickelodeon to see how slime reacts in space. It's pretty cool. Thanks Mrs. Calkins, 5th grade teacher, for sharing this with us!

Good Morning my wonderful kindergarteners. Today we are beginning our new lessons on lifecycles. All living things have a lifecycle. I've uploaded a video for you to watch the short video about butterfly lifecycles then complete the attached worksheet. If you don't have a printer it's ok. Good Morning my wonderful kindergarteners. I hope you had a fantastic weekend. We will continue our lesson on living and non living things. All living things have needs that help them survive and grow. Read the read along book "That Old Log", then try this activity below.

Activity: Living/Non Living scavenger hunt
Materials: a small bag or container, sheet of paper, something to write or color with
Directions: Go outside and observe the things around you. Collect small items and put them inside your bag or container. If the small thing is an insect you might want to draw a picture of it instead.
After you have finished your collection write Living on one side of the paper and Non Living on the other side. Sort your object in the group that you think it belongs. Discuss your findings with an adult. Tell why you think it's Living and what you think it needs to survive.
Things are very different right now, but this is a great time to understand human impact on the earth. Think of some great things that may help the earth because we have to shelter in place for a little while.
I've uploaded a few links to help you celebrate Earth Day. Be sure to check out the Mystery Doug extras and try some of the activities that he suggests. Join the Earth Day live stream event today at 4pm. Learn about the history of earth day and some fun activities that you can try at home.

Welcome Back and I hope you enjoyed your spring break. This week we will continue to learn that all living things have basic needs. The Mystery Science for this week is all about plants and what they need to grow. Watch the video "How do plants and trees grow?", then try the activity. If you don't have all of the supplies don't worry. There are other simple experiments you can try. I've also included a link with instructions to sprout a sweet potato.

Good Monday Morning my wonderful scientist. Please be sure to check the homepage for a special announcement from Mystery Doug. We are continuing our lesson on plant and animal needs. This week's mystery is a read-along called "Who Lives in That Hole?" Try reading the book on your own or ask for help. When you have finished do the activity "Nature Explorer". Now is the perfect time to get outside and explore all that nature has to offer. You can do this in any spot outside.
Hello my wonderful scientist. I've been getting great emails from kids showing me how much they are enjoying the science lessons. I miss all of you! We are continuing our lessons on animal needs. Our mystery this week is "Where Do Animals Live?" Try doing the read along yourself and if you can't ask for help. Be sure to explore the extra activity Nature Nuggets to watch some really cool videos of animals in their homes.
I've included a fun short for the week. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello all of my wonderful scientist. As we come to the close of the first week of our virtual science lab I want to tell you that I miss all of you. Remember that science is all around you. Take some time on this beautiful day to get outside and explore . Pay attention to the animals scurrying about. How do they move? Are they searching for food? Where do you think they live? What sounds do they make? Keep a journal of the things that you discover. Send me an email if you have a question or if you would like to share anything about science.
