Department of Home Affairs

The Department of Home Affairs is pleased to present an opportunity for current Year 12 and 13 students who are exploring the option of a ‘Gap Year’ in 2024.

The Home Affairs Gap Year program will commence in February 2024 with positions offered in dynamic teams where they will have the opportunity to do interesting and meaningful work that affects many parts of Australian Life. Successful applicants will be employed on a 12-month temporary contract and gain valuable experience supporting the processing and administration of essential business areas with excellent working conditions and remuneration.

Digital Traineeship Program

Ag Career Start

This is gap year program on a farm. You will live in a regional location, earn a salary, achieve a nationally recognised qualification, and build life-long industry connections. Applications are now open for the 2024 intake, https://agcareerstart.com.au/

Australian Defence Force

Current Year 12 students can apply for a 12-month position in the Air Force, Army, or Navy to begin in 2024. There are 18 roles on offer, including military police, airbase security, electronics engineer, chef, administration assistant, and maritime warfare officer. A gap year is commonly taken by Year 12 graduates who would like to delay the start of their university or TAFE course or apprenticeship/traineeship. The year provides a fantastic opportunity for graduates to participate in volunteering or overseas programs.
