College Preparatory
Diesel Technology 1 focuses on shop safety, basic mechanics hand tools, shop equipment, and engine components and operation. The major project will be disassembling and reassembling a diesel engine. The students will also dive into electronics, studying theory and how to read and calculate an electrical schematic using Ohm’s Law. They will earn their Snap-On multimeter certification. There will be a limited amount of shop demonstrations and hands-on activities that relate to the material being covered in the classroom. This course is designed for students who are interested in a career in the diesel industry. All course components comply with the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), and standards set forth by the SC Department of Education. All students must have safety glasses, shop clothes, and shoes.

Prerequisite: Diesel Tech 1
Diesel Tech 2 focuses on heavy duty brakes, steering and suspension. Students will learn both the components as well as operation of hydraulic and pneumatic braking systems. Students will also study tires and wheels, wheel balancing, and wheel alignment. Upon successful completion of this course, they will understand the theory, diagnosis, and repair of automotive steering and suspension systems. Actual repair work will be incorporated into each student’s learning experience. Content will also include system diagnosis, communication, customer relations, technical writing, computer science, and blueprints & diagrams. Actual repair work is incorporated into each student’s learning experience under the close supervision of an ASE-certified instructor. Competencies and job tasks comply with ASE and standards set forth by the State Department of Education. All students must have safety glasses, shop clothes, and shoes.

Prerequisites: Diesel Tech 1 (yes, students can take Diesel 3 before Diesel 2)
The Diesel Engine Repair Technology program is designed to prepare students to perform entry-level maintenance and repair tasks under the supervision of an experienced technician. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to obtain the ASE Inspection, Maintenance and Minor Repair and Diesel Engine entry-level certifications, as well as other industry certifications. The following content areas will be discussed: Drive Train and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) All students must have safety glasses, shop clothes, and shoes. [631200HW]
