Weekly Exploration Activity
Half-Chicken Exploration Activity
Half Chicken is a fable/ folktale from Mexico. The chicken and the wind become friends, and eventually the Chicken turns into a weather vane.
But what is a weather vane? According to https://kids.kiddle.co/Weather_vane:
“A weather vane is a device with a freely rotating pointer used to indicate the direction of the wind. Weather vanes served as simple devices for showing the direction of the wind and its speed for centuries. They were a critical tool for agriculture, travel and shipping. They serve a largely decorative function today. They have been replaced by specialized weather instruments.”
You make a weather vane at home to tell what way the wind is blowing in from. This week for your exploration project, make a weather vane with things you can find in your home. Below are different tutorials on YouTube. Use these to help you make your own weather vane!
Once you have made your weather vane, test it out! Take a picture or a video and send it to your teacher.
Write an informational writing explaining how weather vanes work. Send it to your teacher.
