Dream

Veronika Warchol

Human

Surrounding me is a thick glass confine

I have been reduced to a spectacle

As the beings stare, I feel skeptical

I wish our worlds could somehow intertwine

Oh how I wish to have a human mind

They can walk and talk, its exceptional

If only their life was accessible

The way they live their life must be divine

I want my happily ever after

I’ll steal the pen and write it for myself

I’d protect it as though it is my wealth

I will write a beautiful conclusion

A magical tale that ends in laughter

To render my dream of being human

Vacancy

Voices climb the road of his mind;

velvet whispers, like a shadow’s kiss.

The incessant cry of a mockingbird,

demanding, dry, and burning,

wrings a desire from his eye.

It leads him to the spiraling stairs,

dry and brittle.

The leaden moon hangs over his neck

as he climbs up, overcast and dreary

in the humid air. He comes to

stand on the naked path of the grove,

dusk breaking through the blue firs.

He sees the man with no face;

Charred, vicious, dripping

with poison.

The man’s withered hand reaches,

begs, crawls towards him. Towards

an ember small enough to light

the city; small enough to choke

the vacancy of his mind.

The wolves howled in the woods

And divorced in their separate ways

They ran like speed demons

And danced lovely ballet

They stopped for a snack

They found Fruity Pebbles in the trees

But their fun came to an end

When their tongues swelled from a cereal allergy

They tried to think what they can do

It’s been a while since they’ve been in school

They picked up a book

They heard doing that was good

But it turned out they couldn’t read

So they started singing

They loved Taylor Swift’s music

It made them feel happy

But they still felt lonely

Their wallets were not filled with money

They were failing as detectives

Just like they failed at spelling

They ran around

All over their woods playground

They felt like clowns

404 their prey was not found

Sing

Once, the music bled from me like

An open wound. The words were sharp

And meaningful. They crashed together,

Burned it all down, made something new.

It’s since been taken from me.

I don’t have the courage for it anymore.

It makes me a puppet, pulling strings.

It puts bolts in my throat, keeping me

Upright, making the sound. The vibrations

Are not sacred anymore. They don’t come

To worship because they know it is poison.

Void Poem

I was once trapped in the void,

No idea how to manage my way out.

I cried and begged for someone to help me,

But the only thing that was left was the void.

Up in the heights, my future is scary,

Not something you can look up in the dictionary.

Life or death?

The Apple of Eden

Could’ve pulled my car off the road,

To prevent all the mistakes I can still make.

Instead, stay here, live your life,

Listen to music, don’t waste your energy, love and hate.
