Scene 2

Class 4VG

Information about the Scene

The kids arrive at Ikara Flinders Ranges. They ‘meet’ an old goanna who asks them a favour. Vardna wants them to head up to Broome to help a friend of theirs. Vardna tells them to 'be brave, listen, follow and trust and if in doubt follow the rainbow'. The kids then set off to Broome.

Information about the area

The Flinders Range is in South Australia. The Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park belongs to the oldest landscapes in the world, it is about 800 million years old! It is an important geological region with ancient and rugged mountain landscapes and peaceful tree-lined gorges. Ikara refers to what you may know to be Wilpena Pound, part of the traditional lands of the Adnyamathanha people for tens of thousands of years.

Red kangaroos, western grey kangaroos and wallabies are the most common animals of the Flinders Ranges area. Birds like parrots, galahs, emus, the wedge-tailed eagle and some water birds also live in the area. Reptiles like goannas, snakes, bearded dragon lizards, skinks and geckos roam these lands.

I really enjoyed being a part of the production because I learnt lots of indigenous language and it was fun being someone else.
