Many fires are started and spread because of unkempt vegetation. So, to keep a house safe from a fire take precautions such as: taking care of your plants, cutting back trees and shrubs, cutting your lawn or replacing your lawn with a rock garden, and clearing dead leaves from your lawn will help keep your house safe from a fire. Additionally, having high moisture plants would also be beneficial because they would catch fire less quickly and are just as pretty as low moisture vegetation.
Have a safety zone of 30 ft around your house as shown in the picture above, use cement or just keep the area clear of highly flammable plants. Knowing the fire history of the area will also help with the particular circumstances of your area and how to keep your house safe from fire. As an extra precaution, an exterior fire sprinkler system can be installed; so if the house is an area with a lot of fires and has been close to burning this system could be useful.
Plants such as aloe, California lilac , bush honeysuckle, maple and poplar trees which are less flammable than pine or fir trees.
